Asia’s largest tulip garden, the one in Kashmir has the potential to become the second largest in the world. The tulip garden in Srinagar, also called Siraj Bagh, is situated on the shores of the well-known Dal Lake. The garden’s blooms come in a wide range of colors, and there are more than 74 different kinds of tulips that bloom early, mid, and late.

The 450-kanal(56 acre) tulip garden is located at the base of the Zabarwan mountain range and along the shores of the well-known Dal Lake.

“There will be 17 lakh tulips in the garden this year, representing 74 different types, including two new ones. The tulips will give the garden a fresh, more attractive appearance, according to the assistant floriculture officer (AFO).

For more than a month, more than 100 gardeners, including temporary workers, are working hard to prepare the flower carpet.

The preparation of the garden for the month-long Tulip show requires eleven months of diligent labor. Seasons bring about distinct procedures and tasks,” a gardener stated. “Every flower here carries our sweat and soul, and we work in harsh winters and summers.”

Early, mid, and late tulip varieties have all been planted in the garden by the gardeners so that the garden remains open for a month and guests can witness tulips of various hues and types in full bloom.

Visitors from all across the nation and overseas are drawn to the floral display, which creates the illusion of paradise with its carpet of vibrant blooms. Low temperatures are necessary for tulips to survive.

In addition to the 74 varieties of tulips, the AFO stated that during the tulip season, the garden would also have daffodils, hyacinth, muscari, fully bloomed bulbs, and trees in full bloom.

Every year, a large number of visitors and residents are drawn to the carpet of flowers, which creates the impression of paradise.

A record 4.50 lakh visitors came to the garden in 2024 to witness the full bloom of thousands of tulip bulbs in a wide variety of colors.

Since it was opened by then-chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir Ghulam Nabi Azad in 2007, the Tulip garden has grown to be one of the valley’s top tourist destinations. The garden’s opening marks the start of spring and has accelerated Kashmir’s tourism season.

Originating in Persia (Iran), tulips were brought to Europe in the 17th century after many kinds had been established there. Tulips are most commonly grown in Holland, which is located in the mountainous regions that stretch from Europe to Central Asia. The tulip plantation starts in September, just before the winter season officially begins. Read more
