Planning a Sikkim trip? Here’s a 5-day itinerary for Sikkim.

Sikkim is a great place to relax, with beautiful monastery towns, waterfalls, glacial lakes, and mountains all around. This Northeastern state offers so much that one trip will never feel enough. If you have been planning to visit Sikkim for a while, here is a 5-day itinerary for your trip.

Day 1: Gangtok Arrival

As soon as you arrive at the Bagdogra Airport on your first day, you will be taken to Gangtok by bus. To avoid any hassle or wasted time at the airport, it is recommended that you book your taxi in advance in order to avoid any hassle. As far as the road conditions are concerned, it is a fairly comfortable drive from the airport to Gangtok as the road is in decent condition. Once you have reached Gangtok, you can choose your accommodation according to your budget after you have reached the city.

Day 2: Take in Gangtok and the surrounding area

There are so many things to do and see in Gangtok that you will have a hard time choosing what is what. The MG Road is a great place to go for a stroll, where you can pick up some souvenirs and enjoy some delicious momos and thukpa. The afternoon can be spent at the Tibetology Museum, where you can learn about Buddhism, and explore some of the beautiful monasteries that are located in the area. Even if you do not want to take the bus or train, you can rent a car for a day, and check out some well-known places such as Tashi View Point, Tsomgo Lake, and other well-known viewpoints.

Day 3: Leaving for Lachen

Depending on the state of the roads, this trip should take five to six hours. There are numerous landscapes and waterfalls throughout the route, which adds to the excitement of this journey. You will realize that the trip was well worth it once you arrive in Lachen. The Seven Sisters Waterfalls, Singhik Viewpoint, and Chungthang, which are situated at a height of 2750 meters, will be the main attractions of this road trip. Once you arrive at Lachen, you can check into your hotel and unwind while taking in the beautiful surroundings.

Day 4: Now going to Gurudongmar Lake, then leaving for Lachung

After an early breakfast, you will drive to Gurudongmar Lake, which is roughly 3 hours from Lachen. However, because this lake is among the highest in the globe, you may experience breathing difficulties due to the high altitude, so try to avoid staying here for too long. After that, return to your hotel, eat lunch, and begin your exploration of Lachen Monastery. At that point, you can choose to leave your hotel and begin the approximately three-hour drive to Lachung. It goes without saying that Lachung is another lovely hamlet in North Sikkim with many of places to see. Stay here at night and do anything you want with your evening.

Day 5: Visiting Yumthang Valley, and then going back to Gangtok

You will go to Yumthang Valley, commonly known as the Valley of Flowers, after breakfast. It will take around an hour to get from Lachung to the valley. You will pass through the Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary along the route, which is home to over 120 different varieties of rhododendron trees. Please take note: avoid this location in the winter, when the whole valley is obscured by the white snow. You can visit the well-known hot spring, which is renowned for its therapeutic qualities, on your way back from this valley.

After having lunch, head towards Gangtok. It will be around a six-hour journey, and the change of scenery on the way will mesmerise you, to say the least.

Day 6: Return to Bagdogra Airport by car

After enjoying an early morning breakfast, it is time to check out from the hotel. If you have some free time before your departure, consider exploring nearby attractions to enhance your experience. Alternatively, if you prefer a more straightforward approach, feel free to drive directly to the airport for your journey home.
